Ready to level up your diving skills? Specialty certifications are the perfect way to sharpen your technique, explore new environments, and build confidence underwater - all while diving in one of the most stunning marine ecosystems in the world.

At DiveTech in Grand Cayman, we offer a full range of SSI and PADI specialty scuba certifications - taught by experienced instructors with decades of combined diving experience.

Whether you're a new diver looking to gain more experience or a seasoned explorer chasing new challenges, here’s your guide to scuba specialties and how to get certified on your Cayman dive vacation.

What Are Specialty Scuba Certifications?

Specialties are focused diving courses that let you:

  • Develop expertise in a particular area (e.g., night diving, navigation)

  • Dive deeper or longer with safety protocols

  • Learn new equipment (e.g., DPVs, drysuits, rebreathers)

  • Gain credit toward your Advanced Open Water or Master Diver rating

Each specialty typically includes:

  • Knowledge development (online or in-person)

  • 2–4 open water dives

  • Practical skill assessments

  • Certification card valid worldwide

Why Do Specialties in Grand Cayman?

Cayman’s warm, clear, and calm conditions make it ideal for:

✅ Perfecting buoyancy skills

✅ Deep dives on dramatic wall drop-offs

✅ Wreck dives like the Kittiwake

✅ Navigation and night dives with minimal current

✅ Scooter (DPV) dives on extended house reefs

✅ Shore-based or boat-based training flexibility

You’ll gain real-world experience in beautiful conditions - no bulky wetsuits, poor viz, or complex logistics.

Most Popular DiveTech Specialties

1. Deep Diving Specialty

Learn to dive safely beyond 60 ft / 18 m - up to 130 ft / 40 m. Perfect for exploring Cayman’s famous Wall. Required for many wrecks and advanced dive sites.

2. Perfect Buoyancy

Master hovering, air efficiency, and trim. Ideal for newer divers or photographers wanting smoother control.

3. Enriched Air Nitrox

Learn how to use oxygen-enriched gas for longer bottom times. Great for repetitive dives or older divers. Fastest course - often done in half a day.

4. Night Diving

Experience the reef under starlight. Train in torch techniques, night nav, and low-light diving protocols.

5. Wreck Diving

Explore the Kittiwake wreck with proper safety, line handling, and penetration training.

6. Underwater Navigation

Learn compass use, natural navigation, and distance estimation - great for self-reliant diving.

7. Digital Underwater Photography

Improve framing, lighting, and post-processing while diving our stunning reefs.

8. Scooter (DPV) Diving

Cover more ground with diver propulsion vehicles - perfect on our extended house reef system.

How It Works

  1. Pre-Trip Consultation Let us know your diving goals, experience, and schedule. We’ll recommend the right specialties and pair you with a compatible instructor.

  2. Online or Onsite Learning Some courses offer e-learning before arrival. Others are fully in-person with brief theory sessions before dives.

  3. Customized Schedule We can build a 2-day or 5-day plan depending on your pace. Mix in recreational dives between specialty dives if desired.

  4. Certification & Logbook Each specialty is logged and certified - count them toward your Advanced or Master Diver level.

Combo Certification Plans

Want to pack more into your trip? Try these combos:

🔹 Nitrox + Deep + Wreck (For divers wanting to hit wrecks like the Kittiwake) 🔹 Perfect Buoyancy + Photography (For travel bloggers and underwater creatives) 🔹 Navigation + Night + DPV (For adventure seekers)

We’ll help you structure your dives so you get certified AND have fun doing it.

Most specialties are open to:

  • Certified Open Water Divers (age 12+)

  • Divers with at least 10–15 logged dives

  • Physically healthy divers with recent dive experience

  • Some require minimum age (e.g., Deep Diving = 15+)
