What Is the Open Water Certification?

The Open Water Diver Certification is your gateway to becoming a fully certified scuba diver. Once complete, it allows you to:

  • Dive to 18 meters / 60 feet

  • Book guided dives anywhere in the world

  • Rent dive gear from professional shops

  • Explore reefs, wrecks, and walls safely

We offer SSI and PADI certification options - both globally accepted and taught by our seasoned dive instructors.


Course Structure at DiveTech

Our Open Water course is a 2-day program, divided into three parts:

🧠 1. Knowledge Development

Complete theory online or in-person:

  • Dive physics and physiology

  • Equipment and safety procedures

  • Planning dives using dive tables or computers

  • Environmental responsibility

✅ Option: Do your e-learning before arriving in Cayman to save time.

🏊 2. Confined Water Sessions

Held in shallow, calm areas or pools. You’ll practice:

  • Mask clearing

  • Regulator recovery

  • Buoyancy control

  • Emergency procedures

  • Air-sharing techniques

These sessions build your comfort and confidence.

🌊 3. Open Water Dives

Four real dives in the ocean with your instructor. You’ll:

  • Apply all your skills in real dive conditions

  • Experience the beauty of Cayman reefs

  • Pass your final skills assessment

Wat You'll See on Your Open Water Dives

Even your training dives feel like guided tours in Grand Cayman. Expect to see:

  • Reef fish like angelfish, butterflyfish, and parrotfish

  • Coral formations and sea fans

  • Sea turtles, stingrays, and maybe even an eagle ray

  • Clear water with 80–100 ft visibility

We conduct dives at beginner-friendly sites like Lighthouse Point and Cobalt Coast.


Who Can Take the Course?

✅ Ages 10 and up 

✅ Must be in basic good health (we’ll provide a medical form) 

✅ Comfortable in water, able to swim 200 meters 

✅ No prior dive experience needed!

Nervous? We get it. Many of our students are a little unsure at first - and leave with a new passion. We’ll support you every step of the way.


Wat’s Included?

Your Open Water course at DiveTech includes:

  • Online or in-person theory

  • 5 confined water sessions

  • 4 open water dives

  • Full gear rental (mask, fins, BCD, reg, wetsuit, tanks,dive computer)

  • E-Logbook and certification fees


What to Bring

  • Swimsuit and towel

  • Sunscreen (reef-safe preferred)

  • Water bottle

  • Positive attitude and curiosity!

  • Medical clearance if needed (we’ll guide you)

Optional: Bring your own mask/snorkel if you prefer a personal fit.


After Certification - What’s Next?

Once certified, you can:

  • Join daily 2-tank boat dives

  • Try night diving or underwater photography

  • Upgrade to Advanced Open Water

  • Travel the world and explore new oceans
