TRAINING -
TECHNICAL
Cayman's full service Technical/Rebreather dive training center is operating at Divetech's 2 shops - Lighthouse Point and Cobalt Coast Dive Resort. For
divers who are looking for new and unique adventures in their diving,
Divetech offers technical courses through the IANTD and TDI training
curriculums or just seom good old deep diving on the sheer walls of Grand Cayman.
Technical diving - what does it mean? Diving beyond
the recreational limits of diving. Simple - want to dive to 130 feet
and stay for 45 minutes? We can show you the path, give you the tools
and knowledge to accomplish this diving safely, and introduce you to
diving in twins/double tanks, side mounts and doing decompression
stops on your way up. The courses start with nitrox - then Advanced
Nitrox, and continue through the Advanced Trimix level should your
desires or needs be that of diving to deeper depths.
During the
Ice Age, the earth's water levels were some 200feet/60meters shallower than they
are today. This makes for some very interesting underwater topography
on Grand Cayman's walls. Overhangs where the surf used to break on the
shoreline create the perfect home for massive sponges that abound in
colors of pastel pinks, oranges, yellows and translucent whites.
Chutes cut into the wall where once waterfalls or runoff from land
created erosion which offer beautiful entrances onto the wall, and the
pelagic's that run deeper in waters surrounding our island are pleasant
companions on any dive. So how do you explore this virgin world?
Diving deep beyond the recreational dive limits of 130feet/40meters? Divetech can teach you how.

Technical diving is by definition 'any dives conducted beyond the 130ft' depth limit, dives requiring a decompression stop,
dives beyond the light zone, or dives into an overhead environment'.
Obviously this type of advanced, extended range diving is not for
everyone, and it requires a commitment to safe, responsible, self-
disciplined diving. It takes a love of the sport, a lot of training
and practice, and a little bit of an adventurous spirit to get you
there. Training is the first step to expanding your diving horizons.
Starting with
Nitrox Diver, students have an opportunity to take advantage of a
great diving environment while also learning about the advantages that
Nitrox can offer. Advanced Nitrox, Technical Nitrox, Extended
Range/Staged Decompression, Deep Air, Rebreathers and Trimix
certification courses are available. Although not for everyone,
technical diving, through discipline and self sufficiency development,
offers safe extended range diving opportunities to those choosing to
pursue this path.
Courses run an average of 4 to 6 days, with fantastic diving each
day. Equipment for the dives can all be rented at Divetech, where
state of the art Scuba Pro & DiveRite equipment is found.
After Nitrox, students are in twin 80cuft or 100cuft manifold cylinders,
and diving various decompression nitrox mixes to meet the course standards.
Divetech has a complete range of decompression software for use by
our students, including RGBM Models taking advantage of the various mixed gas dive computers and models on the market today.
