Sentinel CCR Training May 10 - 17, 2008

A dedicated week of Closed Circuit Rebreather Diver or Instructor training. Congratulations on your decision to purchase a Sentinel Rebreather.  The next step is to get trained.  Whether you are training as a diver on the unit, an Instructor or are crossing over from another rebreather the path is the same.

Sentinel Specifications (265KB)

Phill Short from Closed Circuit Research will be our Instructor Trainers for the course. You will earn your certification through TDI.  The course will be limited to the first eight (8) confirming their slot for the week.  Preference will be given to rebreather Instructors crossing over then to new divers on the Sentinel.  The cost of the training will be £600 for the diver level; the instructor course will be £750.00 (which includes the diver course). This equates to approximately $1200.00 U.S. and $1500.00 U.S. respectively for the training, depending on the exchange rate at the time you pay the course fee. This fee will be paid directly to Phil and Al prior to the course.  Once you are confirmed for the training we will invoice you and provide payment instructions.

PHILL SHORT: Phill started diving in 1990 from a background of dry caving and climbing and at first only completed a PADI open water diver course in order to use SCUBA to pass short flooded sections of dry caves in Mendip and South Wales. He then continued his open water training through the PADI system with Course Director Steve Axtell and in 1991 he qualified as a PADI instructor and began teaching full time, working his way up to Master Instructor. During this period Phill began developing his Technical Diving skills through training with Kevin Gurr and in 1993 was involved in forming one of the first Trimix wreck diving teams in the UK. He is now one of the UK’s foremost IANTD Instructor Trainers. Having spent 3 years developing his Technical skills, Phill began to use them for cave diving, his true passion, on expeditions to Mallorca, France and Spain. At the same time, he began teaching technical diving full time for Phoenix Oceaneering. Over the years, Phill has been involved in film projects for ITV, BBC and Channel 4 on the M1 submarine, the shipwrecks from the battle of Jutland and cave diving projects in Northern Spain and the UK. He has also taken part as a closed circuit rebreather diver in several shipwreck search projects in the Western Pacific and the Gulf of Mexico. He has also been leading a continuing cave exploration project in the Ural Mountains in Russia and digging underwater in his pet project Swildon’s Hole in the Mendips UK. Phill has been diving professionally for 15 years and has logged over 5000 dives in caves and open water using both open and closed circuit equipment.

We will be doing the diver level training followed by the Instructor course in Grand Cayman, May 10th to 17th.  Cobalt Coast Resort has graciously put a package together for us including all your bottle rental, gases, scrubber, lodging, food and diving for the week. This is one of the finest resorts I have ever been at.  They are set up for technical divers, especially rebreather divers.  The accommodations are world class with dining provided by an amazing chef.  Please read the reservation information below. A $500.00 deposit is required to hold your spot at Cobalt Coast Dive Resort/Divetech.  As soon as your reservation is confirmed you will need to contact Cobalt Coast (888) 946-5656 or divetech@candw.ky to make your deposit.  The balance of the resort fee is due when you depart the resort.

For anyone wanting to stay another week in Grand Cayman: The week following the Sentinel Training is InnerSpace.  A once a year rebreather event at Cobalt Coast / DiveTech.  The package works the same, all inclusive.  Stay and dive your new rebreather for another week before going home.  I will be staying and teaching other Sentinel students during InnerSpace.  Let me know if you want the additional information.
