Kid's Diving - Year Round

We love to have children with us exploring and learning about the underwater world.  For families with kids, we will customize a package as appropriate depending on age and the needs of the individual.  We offer in-water programs that include SSI Scuba Rangers/PADI Seal Team, Jr. Open water certifications and SASY Snorkeling.  We will ask that you decide on the appropriate program for the child based on the following information and their comfort level in the water:)

All of our staff are Scuba Instructors and have undergone special training including CPR, Oxygen and Medic First Aid training specifically for children and have clean police clearance records:) With our on-site pool, clear water and shallow reefs in a secluded resort environment, you can enjoy your diving while the kids are learning too!

SASY/SNORKEL PROGRAMS We offer 1/2 day sessions for the younger children who are interested in learning learning basic snorkel/scuba skills in the pool and the ocean.  We use a supplied air system that resembles a scuba unit with a tank and regulator to "float" on the surface and breathe through the 1st stage.  The "BCD" is in effect a life jacket and does not permit the child to descend but does provide a safe and comfortable snorkel system.  The child must be somewhat comfortable in the water and be able to put their head under the water and swim unassisted in the pool.  Also, they must possess an interest in being in the water and be able to follow the instructions of their supervisor.  The class will begin in the pool by teaching them snorkel techniques using a scuba mask, snorkel fins and a wetsuit if desired.  For example they will learn how to equalize their ears as well as "blast" clear their snorkels.  Once comfort with this has been achieved they will be introduced to the SASY unit.  The children are taught how to set up a scuba unit, breathe through a regulator and other basic scuba skills like clearing their mask and recovering their regulator.  Its a blast - especially - if the children have parents who dive and are anxious to join them on their adventures!

RANGERS/SEALS: We also offer 1/2 day programs that match the times that parents can be out diving on the boats.  The children are taught how to scuba dive first in the pool and then in the ocean right in front of Cobalt Coast in shallow water!!  They will also be taught scuba skills that are required for the adult certifications as they desire.  We take it at their pace, so if there is something they are not ready to try they are not required to do it:)  A general comfort in the water and the desire to explore the sea is a must!   We can take the Rangers and Seals in the ocean to do photo, fish ID, scooter or navigation dives etc. - a wide range of options and tons of fun.  Generally, 3 half days are needed to get the kids diving in the ocean and some patches!   All of our Ranger instructors have their SSI/PADI approvals, police clearances, EFR/MFA certifications and O2 provision for children.  We have the pool with fun water games for a break, snack time and beautiful shallow reefs right off shore.   

JR. OPEN WATER CERTIFICATION: In addition to the programs for the young children, we offer a 3 day program that teaches children 10 and up to Scuba Dive, following the same curriculum as the adults, but the kids are restricted to 40 feet of depth. They do a day of classroom (split over 2 half days), a day in the pool and a day in the ocean diving (4 dives total). This program includes all books, instruction, equipment, registration fees - there are no extra charges.  

Another option is for an afternoon 1-tank STINGRAY CITY, where  the parents and the kids can dive together - a great 12 foot dive.

JR. ADVENTURE DIVER: Once certified as a Jr. Open water diver, the kids can continue their underwater adventure by doing 3 Specialty dives and earn their Adventure diver certification. As the 10 and 11 year old cannot do the deep dive or night dive, these 3 divers put them on their way to becoming an Advanced Diver once they turn 12 can complete the rest of the dives. Dive options for the littler ones include Fish ID, Coral Reef Charting, Navigation, Buoyancy, Photography, Search and Recovery and underwater scooters to choose from.

JR. ADVANCED OPEN WATER DIVER: You will be diving at one of our 2 great shore diving locations on the North wall/NW Point. The North wall is spectacular, sheer deep walls and lots of eagle ray sightings.  We will visit different sites, and you'll absolutely love the night dives from shore with the abundance of marine life at both of these great locations.   You choose from any 5 of the following, although you must do a Deep dive and a Navigation dive, the other 3 are your options. The course is 5 dives in total, usually completed over 2 half days and then a night dive too. The Jr. AOW course includes all of the extra equipment (camera, lights, scooter, reels, etc.) tanks, weights, manuals, instruction, 5 dives and your registration fees for your new certification.

SPECIALTIES:

All of the dives have a lecture involved with them. There is an Advanced Open Water manual that has knowledge reviews for each specialty, 5 of which you will have to complete and turn in. The lectures run about an hour for each dive. There is no exam as the course is focused mainly on diving. Prior to each dive there is a briefing and review of the skills that will be completed on that particular dive, lasting approximately a half hour.

GUIDED SHORE DIVES 10 - 40 foot range can also be arranged for our the younger ones, exploring the reefs, marine critters and the underwater world.
